Clearly the court fears the jury would be persuaded to a not-guilty verdict if it heard this truthful defense, regardless of archaic-albeit-evolving laws that still disallow growing marijuana to produce cannabidiol for medical purposes other than epilepsy.

Judge (Originally) Bars Media Coverage of Jury Selection in Manufacturing Marijuana Case in Scott County, Iowa
Although the courtroom was open to the public during jury selection, Latham barred the media from taking notes.
He also barred the media from reporting specific details of the process, such as the type of questions posed to prospective jurors of the number of peremptory strikes used by attorneys.
Latham cited an updated Seventh Judicial District policy for media relations and new rules for Expanded News Media Coverage in Iowa that he said restrict still and video cameras during jury selection.

You can get on the Iowa Judicial Branch website and go under the “For the Media” tab (www.iowacourts.gov). The court rules (Chapter 25) were amended effective May 1, 2014 and should be there. Also attached to this email is the 7th Judicial District’s media policy for 2014, which includes the amended Chapter 25 rules..

Judge Overturns Original Ruling and Allows Reporters to Report Jury Selection Process
A Scott County judge ruled Tuesday morning that members of the news media may take notes and write about jury selection proceedings in the case of three defendants charged in connection with a marijuana-growing operation in Long Grove.
Judge Henry Latham ruled on a motion filed by the Quad-City Times prior to the start of the proceedings.
